At-Home Steam Facial
The steam room is often the first stop during a relaxing spa day. Facial steams are perfect for opening pores and prepping the skin. The best part about steam facials is that they are super easy to replicate at home with very few ingredients and tools. Giving your face a weekly steam will help detoxify and soften your skin. It’s the ultimate opening act because your skin care products take the spotlight.
Here are a few rules to keep in mind before starting your steam facial. First, remember to always steam before your serums and moisturizer, never after. Doing it after will rid the skin of the products you used, so for best results, start your day with a steam! Drink a glass of water before you steam. It’s important to keep your body hydrated because facial steaming will cause you to sweat and get dehydrated. Lastly, steam for a maximum of 10 minutes, any longer and your skin will dry up!
Steam Facial Routine
Cleanse & Exfoliate
Wash your face with a gentle exfoliating face wash that can remove makeup, dirt, impurities, and dead skin cell build up.
Prep the Steam
Bring a small pot or bowl of water to a boil. When the water is thoroughly heated, carefully transfer it into a ceramic or glass bowl and allow it to cool down a tad.
Add Essential Oils
To feel refreshed: Citrus scented oils
To feel relaxed: Lavender or Chamomile oils
To feel uplifted: Rose oil
For the ultimate spa experience: Eucalyptus oil
Steam your Face
Drape a towel over your head and shoulders to create a “steam tent”. For 5-10 minutes, inhale and exhale slowly.
Use a Toner
Once you’re done, gently sweep a hydrating toner over your face with a cotton pad.
Moisturize your Skin
Follow up toner with your favorite serums and moisturizer to help lock in hydration. Remember to use products suitable for your skin type and concerns!
