6 Home Remedies for Acne

No matter the season, the day of the week, or the time of day, acne never fails to present itself. You could be eating right, exercising, and keeping up a strict skin care routine with 1,000 steps – but a pimple can still manage to get through. Luckily unlike diamonds, pimples aren’t forever. They can be eliminated just as quickly as they appeared – and in the most natural way possible. Here are 6 home remedies you can do to say ‘bye bye bye’ to those pesky blemishes.

Baking Soda Face Mask

Baking soda is one of the best natural exfoliators out there! When mixed with water, it becomes the perfect pasty consistency that helps to remove blackheads and toxins from the surface of the skin. Because baking soda is a pretty powerful ingredients, we wouldn’t recommend this mask to those with very sensitive skin.

Moisturize with Aloe Vera

This gelly plant is not only popular in the ASMR world. Aloe vera is considered to be an incredible miracle ingredient. You can find it in many creams, lotions, serums, ointments, and soaps! But the best way to apply aloe vera is directly from the source. You can find individual stems of the aloe vera plant at most grocery stores. All you have to do it slice it open, scoop and remove the gooey insides, and apply to your face – or wherever acne persists. If you’re looking to get the most benefit, leave the aloe in the fridge for 30 minutes and then apply for a cool, refreshing feeling.

Apply Green Tea

Much like how you would drink green tea after an unsettling or filling meal, the anti-inflammatory properties of its leafs are great for  alleviating irritated spots. We love an ingredient that’s multi-purpose, and green tea is no exception. Here are a few ways of applying:

Soak the tea bag in cold water, place it on blemished area, and leave there for 1o minutes or until is goes back to room temperature.

Dip a cotton pad into the cold water (that is now infused with said tea) and wipe it across your face – much like how you would a toner!

Ice Ice Baby

It’s time to be like Elsa and freeze your sorrows away! If you’re looking for a quick spot treatment, wrap an ice cube in a soft cotton wash cloth and hold it against your blemish for 15 seconds. This will help to reduce the inflammation and irritation surrounding the pimple. Do this twice a day for a week and say bye bye bye.

Turmeric Face Scrub

Turmeric, also known as the “everything it touches turns to gold” ingredient, is a staple in many acne-related cures. It’s a medicinal super-herb with the power to boost immunity and heal acne scars like magic. Although making this scrub might leave your skin looking a little yellow and sickly, the results are totally worth it. Mix together turmeric, milk (of your choosing), and honey together until you get a thick consistency. Apply to effected areas and leave on for no more than 10 minutes before rinsing.

Acne-Clearing Toner

If you thought toning was a skin care step you could skip, think again. Toners do wonders for detoxifying and revitalizing the skin – especially when it contains the right ingredients. Luckily, making your own toner isn’t hard at all! Grab and empty bottle and mix in witch hazel, eucalyptus oil, tea tree oil, and lavender oil. Shake it up and apply to your skin using a cotton pad. Each of the oils have special anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that will help to soothe the skin reduce the swelling.
